Planning, Goals, and Organization

I realize that it's been a long time since I posted something (besides E's 5 month update). But I was given the opportunity to review a fabulous product that I wanted to share with you guys!

I was approached by Spark Notebook to review some of their most popular spreadsheets. Obviously, being the paper-product-fanatic that I am, I had to see what all of the fuss is about!

First of all, I love the sleek and professional design. I know that many of you prefer bright, happy, cheerful personalized things. However, there are environments where this simple look is more... acceptable? I think it's great that this is as functional as a lot of popular planners, but it's something that guys can use (I just pictured my husband toting around an Emily Ley or Erin Condren planner and laughed).

The Spark team sent me a PDF of the following spreadsheets:
-weekly outlook
-project planner
-monthly goals
-30 day challenge

The weekly outlook was probably the sheet that I would be the least likely to use, simply because columns really aren't my thing. If that's your favorite layout, this notebook is a wonderful alternative to Erin Condren planners! I wrote in a couple of the things from my planner so you could get an idea of what the spreadsheet looks like!

Next, they have the project planner. I don't have any upcoming projects as of right now, but I definitely plan on utilizing these worksheets in the future... More on that in the months to come. ;)

As many of you know, I just had a baby, which means I'm still working on losing the baby weight. The monthly goal spreadsheet is a wonderful resource that I will be using. I plan on using these sheets to write down my health, fitness, and personal goals for each month, and I will be hanging them up in a visible spot.

Lastly, they sent me this 30-day challenge worksheet. This is probably the sheet I am most excited about, simply because it lines up with one of my 30 before 30 goals! I plan on doing different 30 day challenges throughout 2015, so this worksheet is a great resource for that!  I love that you are required to write down different aspects of your goal (why I want to make it happen, my plan of action, etc.). Like the monthly goals, I am going to hang this in a visible spot.

Emmett: 5 Months

Weight: 14 lbs 9 oz (21st percentile)
Height: 26 inches (58th percentile)
Head Circumference: 17.5 inches (96th percentile)

Milestones: Emmett is rolling over more frequently and has a hilarious belly laugh (that kind of sounds like a grunt). He tried rice cereal a few times, and still isn't a huge fan of spoons. Hopefully that will change soon! He stands up while holding someone's hands for a really long time- he would rather be standing than anything else. Good thing we have an activity bouncer so he can play in there while we get other things done around the house.

Sleep: We're still waking up 2-3 times a night for feedings, which is starting to wear on mama and daddy a tiny bit. Dad usually wakes up for the first shift/feeding and gives him a bottle, then I feed him for the remainder of the evening.

Favorite Things: Playing in the activity bouncer, standing up to see the world, putting everything in his mouth, listening to Christmas music.

Health: Emmett has had a cough and runny nose for about a month now, which is super frustrating because we can't give him any meds. But he is very happy and doesn't seem bothered by the coughing. He's still gaining weight at a steady rate, which makes us happy.

Feeding: Emmett still eats 2-3 times at night. We supplement with 1-2 soy formula bottles every day. He eats between 4-6 oz per feeding. We've added more rice cereal to his bottles to try to make him more full (we really can't tell much of a difference! Ha!). We plan on introducing veggies soon.

Emmett: 4 Months

Weight: 13 lbs 7.6 oz (22nd percentile)
Height: 25 inches (73rd percentile)
Head Circumference: 17 inches (75th percentile)

Milestones: Emmett laughed for the first time a few weeks ago (of course, it was at his daddy). He also rolled over for the first time the other day! He loves grabbing toys and his paci. Emmett is also a talker! There are times where he will talk, gurgle, coo, and squeal for about 10 minutes. It's the best, sweetest sound in the world. Emmett also grabs his feet and folds his hands together (a lot).

Sleep: We're still waking up 2-3 times a night for feedings, but I honestly don't mind. You might remember that he was having issues with weight gain last month, so the fact that he is getting nutrition makes me not feel any frustration about waking up often. I keep telling myself that I can sleep when I'm dead. ;)

Favorite Things: Playing on a mat or bouncy chair, standing up to see the world, putting his hands in mama's mouth, chewing on his fist, bath time, lights, music, and FaceTime-ing with his family.

Health: We found out that little E has silent reflux and he is either lactose intolerant or milk protein intolerant. Either way, that means that mama has cut out most dairy out of her diet (goodbye, ice cream and cheese...). He started gaining weight once we figured that out, so we're all happy about that! He got his four month shots yesterday and had a 103-degree fever, which was so sad for mama and daddy. But he's already feeling better now!

Feeding: Emmett still eats 2-3 times at night. We supplement with 1-2 soy formula bottles every day. We've added a teaspoon of rice cereal in some bottles, and he doesn't really seem to know the difference. He usually eats about 4-6 oz per feeding!

Mama Mondays

Leslyn's Lovely Life

November 9th, 2013 - My 26th birthday. This picture was taken about 3 hours after I took 4 positive pregnancy tests. And we had to keep a secret and not tell any of my best friends who came over to celebrate (the secret-keeping was pure torture, I assure you). Side note: Emmett was born on DJ's 26th birthday. I'm telling you- year 26 was a good one for both of us. :)

November 9th, 2014: My 27th birthday. At the park with my loves.

I don't think it gets any better than this. I am so thankful for these two. :) How was your weekend??

Where I've been

Sometimes, life is exhausting.

You have a baby that's going through a growth spurt.

You get sick. Again. For the 3rd time in a little over a month.

You have to work a 12 hour work day on a Saturday, and then you have to work on a Sunday (yes, that means that I am on my 10th day in a row of working).

Sometimes, you have too much on your plate.

So much, that you end up saying, "Forget the dishes. Forget grocery shopping. Forget the blog.
I need sleep."

So you sleep. You're in bed by 9 p.m., and you sleep.

Well, until your baby wakes you up for the first of six times in one night to eat. Because he's going through a growth spurt, remember?

And then there are all of the other things.

Things that affect you and frustrate you more than they probably should.

But you know what?

God is still good, and His grace is still sufficient.

He gives us exactly what we need...

Whether it's a super supportive husband who extends a ton of grace....

Or a sweet moment with that growing baby- so sweet that it makes me forget how exhausted I am...

Or a work day that flies by...

He is good.

HE is strength of my heart and my portion.

Forever.

Pumpkin Patch Fun

Well, I can cross the first thing off of my 30 before 30 list!!!

We visited the pumpkin patch with E, and we had a blast!

About 5 minutes after we got there, I got stung in the finger by either a bee or a wasp which wasn't fun... But I got over it because I wanted to enjoy every single second of fun at the pumpkin patch!

We took a hayride, picked a pumpkin, walked through a corn maze, looked at animals, and had a blast! DJ's parents, sister and her two boys went with us!

We took about a bazillion pictures, but here are my favorites!

Mama Mondays

Leslyn's Lovely Life

This week, I have been thinking about how thankful I am for the life that I have.

First of all, I am thankful that God gave us a precious little boy. After being told by doctors that the only way to get pregnant would be with fertility treatments, I can say with 100% confidence that this little boy is a miracle.

Secondly, I am so happy to have a supportive husband. DJ loves spending time with Emmett and talking to him. I've never seen anything so sweet... And I think Emmett prefers his daddy over his mama.

Lastly, I am so thankful to have a healthy baby. Yes, he's kinda skinny for his age. But you guys, it could be much, much worse. I was visiting my cousin at Children's this past week, and as I was leaving, I overheard a lady talking to her dad on the phone. She was telling him that her daughter was going to undergo chemo treatments and that she would be at Children's for at least the next 8 weeks.

It was in that moment that I realized that I have no reason to complain whatsoever. There are so many people in this world who are dealing with things that I can't even fathom. So instead of being whiney, I am choosing to be thankful and happy. :)

Mama Mondays

Leslyn's Lovely Life

In case you missed it yesterday, our little boy is 3 months old!! And if you read the post, you know we're having issues with weight gain (not me, him... I wish I could give him a few of my extra lbs... Haha).

So instead of writing about it again, I'll let you click over there and read what's going on...

NOW, I need some advice from you mamas. I'd rather increase my milk supply instead of giving him a ton of formula (and the only reason I feel that way is because I want to hold off on the extra stinky diapers for as long as possible... Ha!). So do you have any advice for this new mama?! Any help would be appreciated!

Make sure you grab our button so we can spread the word about this awesome link up!

Emmett: 3 Months

The past three months have flown by.... Our little boy has given us more joy than we could've ever imagined! Here's everything you need to know about our sweet E!

Weight: 11 lbs (10th percentile... More on this at the bottom of this post)
Height: 25 inches (75th percentile)
Head circumference: 16.75 inches (75th percentile)

Milestones: He is starting to try to roll over, but he isn't quite there yet. Whenever he gets frustrated or fussy and he's laying down, he kicks his feet and it makes him move in a circle. It's kind of funny. He's also starting to grab for things, and he's talking more and more! He also loves looking at his feet and hands.

Sleep: Last night was the first time he slept through the night in over a month. He slept for nine hours, which was glorious for this mama and daddy. Usually, he wakes up twice for feedings. The other night was the first night that he slept in his crib for the entirety of the night. Usually, he gets fussy and we get tired of going back and forth between the rooms, so we end up putting him in his bassinet in our room. Now, we are trying to create a habit (for us... Ha!) of keeping him in his crib all night.

Favorite Things: Sucking on his fist, reading books, talking to mommy and daddy, looking at fans and lights, listening to music, eating, bath time, facetiming/skyping with his family, swinging, cuddling with his daddy.

Health: Emmett has had a really hard time gaining weight. I've been to the lactation consultant, we've been to the doctor multiple times, he's eating twice the amount that he used to, and we're trying medicine, but he's still having a really hard time. When he was first born, he was a big baby. So if you could pray that we figure out why he's having a hard time gaining weight, that would be awesome.

Feeding: Emmett is primarily breast-feeding, but we made the decision to supplement with formula once or twice a day. He definitely prefers mommy milk, but is slowly resisting formula less and less. As I mentioned before, he has doubled the amount that he eats at each feeding.

Mama Mondays: Freezer Edition

My baby was in the freezer last week.

Now, before you call DHS, you need to read this story. It's real life.

Last week, we had some severe weather in Arkansas. Right before it hit, the hubby and I were hungry for dinner, so we decided to go to IHOP to grab a quick bite.

So we're sitting there, enjoying our extremely overpriced breakfast for dinner, when I look out the window and see sideways rain. It's so crazy that all of the employees at IHOP forget that they have jobs to do, and they all go outside to play in the rain. No, this is not a joke. Very professional.

I tell DJ that we need to hurry and go home. I ask for our check when our waitress decides that it's time to stop jumping in puddles and comes back inside.

Well, right as the she returns our card to us, the manager comes out from the back and yells "I'm sorry I have to do this, but there's a tornado outside and I need everyone to get in the freezer now. My district manager won't let you leave."

At this point, I start FREAKING OUT. Because I'm about to go into a restaurant freezer. With my little human and a bunch of other humans that I don't know.

Also, this is what my baby was wearing that day. Not freezer-friendly.

Needless to say, I'm thinking that I'm about to strip down to my underwear if I have to so I can keep my child from getting frostbitten. Thankfully (for the other customers... because the good Lord knows that NOBODY wants to see this post-baby bod), they had a bunch of coats sitting in the back. Now, I don't know how long it's been since the darling employees at IHOP washed their coats. But we covered the babe with the coat and prayer so he wouldn't get some kind of nasty disease.

Well apparently, he loves having a freezing cold face because he fell asleep. While a tornado was just blowing by. No biggie.

Anyhow, DJ is calm, the baby is sleeping, and I'm hyperventilating because I have no clue what's going on outside (because once you're locked in a freezer, you lose cell phone service. Convenient). After what feels like an eternity, they let us leave. Our car is intact, but there are trees down everywhere. Several hours later, I calm down and I laugh about the story. Because seriously.... This kind of stuff would only happen to me.

So there's the story of my baby being in a freezer. Do you have any bizarre stories like that? Or even just a plain boring one? Link up below and share with us!

Oh, and P.S.- in case you were wondering, that IHOP was very clean in the back. So that's good. ;)

Mama Mondays

Update: The linkup is now working! Sorry for the weirdness! ;)

Leslyn's Lovely Life

I apologize in advance for the brevity (and scatterbrained-ness) of this post... This is the second weekend in a row that I've been sick, so blogging has not been a priority (*cue Usher's Confessions*).

I am so extremely thankful for my little boy. There are a ton of crazy things that have happened over the past few weeks - things in the news, things in our lives - and it makes me want to SQUEEZE that child so tight all the time to protect him from the messed up things that happen (and it stinks that I can't right now because, again, I'm sick. Bleh). I feel like I have already had to fight for him and be a mama bear- something that I hoped I wouldn't have to do so early on.

I'm realizing that there are few things in this world as fierce as a mother's love for her child. And while it causes me to be more brokenhearted, hurt, and upset by things that used to be so trivial, it's all worth it.

Link up with us! :)
