Leslyn's Lovely Life: May 2014

1. I married the coolest guy around. Mainly because he makes furniture look really awesome all the time. Here are the two transformations that have taken place in our home this week...

And after!

And after!

I'm. In. Love.

2. I am officially on maternity leave. So this girl is one happy camper. I shall wear nothing but yoga pants for the next 3 months. And it will be glorious.

3. One of my best friends is having her bachelorette party this weekend! This is going to be my last opportunity to have a girl's night before Emmett gets here... So I am super excited about it.

4. It has been raining all week. It's disgusting. And we've been dog-sitting for the past few days, so there are 4 (yes, 4) stinky wet dogs in our house. I would looooove it if the sun would start shining a little bit.

5. Beth Moore tweeted me this week. So that was pretty cool. :) I mean, I had to post an atrocious photo of myself, but hey, it's all good.

Check back next week for lots of fun posts! :)

Baby Shower - 3rd Edition

I seriously love my job. I work with some of the sweetest people in the world. They are always so encouraging and supportive, and they always make me smile. Some of my sweet friends threw a baby shower for Emmett on Tuesday, and we had a blast! Here are some of the highlights from the day!

Note: I forgot to readjust the settings on my camera before I handed it off, so all of the pictures had a super high ISO. I hope you enjoy my poor photo editing skills. ;)

Oh and P.S. apparently I make the dumbest faces ever whenever I open gifts at showers. Exhibit A.

So there's that. Hahaha!

Happy Thursday!

Nursery Update: The Dresser

I apologize in advance- half of these photos were taken on my iPhone, and the others were taken by my husband with the fancy camera. Sorry for the inconsistency in quality. ;)

So there are some dresser/changing table combos that are super awesome. And super expensive. We're talking at least $600. And I don't know about y'all, but I have a really hard time justifying spending $600 for something that's going to be pooped and peed on.

We went on a crazy online hunt looking for options. We were about to settle for a tiny $100 IKEA dresser. I mean, the changing pad would barely fit on it. That's how small it was. Then, suddenly, I had this little epiphany...

"Look at Craigslist."

So I did.

And then, this little $75 miracle happened.

My husband did all of the work himself. He's a rockstar. Since this last photo was taken, we have added baskets to the top shelves, and we've spray painted his name (which we'll hang on the wall).

This little boy's room is coming together very quickly, and we're super excited about it! I can't wait to show y'all more as the rest of his furniture comes in!

Baby Shower - 2nd Edition

This past Saturday, some of my closest friends and family threw me the most beautiful, thoughtful baby shower. Every single detail was absolutely perfect. I'll just let all of the pictures speak for themselves.

Our little family is so blessed! I have my next baby shower this afternoon, and there will be a post on that one on Thursday! :)

Have a wonderful day, friends!

33 Weeks

I need to brag on the husband/photographer for a moment... It took several outfit changes and a bunch of pictures for me to find one that I wouldn't hate for the world to see. We're to that point of the pregnancy, folks. I'm 100% certain that after this human comes out of me, this blog is going to be about the weird things the child does and me hating my life throughout the process of losing weight. Mark my words. But seriously- I married the best, most patient man in the world. He'll have many jewels in his crown in heaven.

And now, back to our regular programming.

How far along? 33 weeks, 2 days
Maternity clothes? I really love my maternity clothes. And Piko tops (if you're not from Arkansas, you need to look them up. Life changing. Super soft. I will wear mine until the day I die).
Sleep: Is a struggle. Due to the combination of having a human attached to the front of my body, the heat, swelling, and allergies. Not cool.
Best moment this week? The hubby and I found an AMAZING deal for a dresser... I'll spare you all the details (until tomorrow, when I blog about it. Duh). And I got to see my family. And I had the most wonderful baby shower (again, it shall be blogged about).
Miss Anything? Being comfortable.
Movement: Yeah- I've been paying really close attention to his sleep/movement patterns over the past few weeks. He's actually really calm at night. The only time he moves is when I have to get up in the middle of the night. So maybe- just maybe- he'll help his mama out and start sleeping through the nights at an early age? We'll pray about that. Haha.. Oh, and he always has the hiccups right after lunch, and then again right before dinner. It's like clock work. :)
Food cravings: Pineapples all day every day. And watermelon. And strawberries. Basically anything fresh.
Aversions: It honestly depends on the day. As I type this, nothing sounds overly gross.
Showing? Why are we still asking this? Haha
Labor Signs? They started my weekly appointments early to keep everything in check... but our little guy is still in there!
Belly Button- in or out? In!
Rings- on or off? On... Most of the time. I'm telling y'all- the heat is not helping me out!
Happy or Moody? Happy! Last week was absolutely wonderful, and I'm in my last few days of work before my maternity leave officially starts! Woohoo!
Looking forward to: My work baby shower tomorrow, and my best friend's bachelorette party this weekend! So many wonderful things. :)

1. My family is coming today. Y'all. I might cry tears of joy when I see them.

2. I know I'm probably biased, but I think that my husband and I made an adorable human being. For those of you who have a hard time seeing stuff on ultrasounds, the top of our little guy's head is on the right side of the picture. And he's looking right at you. And he has the cutest rainbow arch on his upper lip and I can't wait to love on this child. Okay. Moving on.

3. Sometimes, you will want to give up on finding a dresser/changing table combo. And then, sometimes, you look at Craigslist at just the right time and find an AWESOME cherry wood dresser. For $75. Say whaaaa?!?! The extreme dresser makeover has already taken place... But I will wait until next week to share the photos. Aren't I the worst? Muahahaha.

4. One of DJ's good friends from work got us this AWESOME set of onesies for our little E! I thought this was such a creative, fun gift! All the other gifts were awesome too (remember how I talked about that mamaRoo? Still dying over that one)... But this was something that was so unique! I just had to share! :)

5. With the exception of 2 snow make up days, I'm done with the school year! I just have to box up a few things before I leave, and then I'll officially be on maternity leave! WHOA! That's cray!

I hope you all have a fabulous weekend! I know I've been looking forward to this weekend for a loooooong, long time. :)

Baby Shower - 1st Edition

On Monday, we had the most wonderful baby shower at DJ's work! Prior to the festivities, I had only met a few of his coworkers. But man- these people are so sweet! I totally get why my husband loves his job so much- it makes all the difference in the world when you're working with some cool people!

We walked into the room, and this was what we saw!

Y'all- we have a mamaRoo!!! I'm still flipping out over it! If you've never heard of it- google it. I can't wait for little E to take naps in it so mama can get some work done! ;)

Y'all, the food was awesome... My favorite bakery in Little Rock is Community Bakery... they did our wedding cake, and everything that they make tastes PHENOMENAL. If you've never been- add it to your list of places to go. For real.

It was so nice to meet all of DJ's coworkers, and I can't wait to bring little E up there to meet everyone! :)

I'll have more baby shower posts in the near future- my next shower is this Saturday!

32 Weeks

Well you can't see the bottom of the board, but it says "mama's #1 craving".

How far along? 32 Weeks, 2 Days
Maternity clothes? Are we really still asking this question? ;)
Sleep: I wake up a lot at night, but I've been trying to train myself to fall back asleep quickly. I usually get super tired in the afternoons because of the weird sleep stuff. But it's okay!
Best moment this week? We got a TON of stuff done in preparation for E! We signed up for classes at the hospital, toured the labor and delivery section of the hospital, I wrote out my birth plan, we found a day care that doesn't have a waiting list (thank you Jesus!!), and we ordered a glider. Oh, and we started packing our hospital bag. It's starting to get real. :) Also- we ended up having an ultrasound this week (we had a little bit of a scare... but everything is going to be fine). Seeing our little boy's sweet face took the excitement to another level. He looks less creepy and looks like a sweet, chubby-cheeked baby. Oh how we love this kid...
Miss Anything? I really miss being my normal not swollen size. I've been looking through old pictures, and I can't wait to be at a normal, healthy weight again. Just a few more months, and I'll be on my way. Thank goodness!
Movement: Of course! He actually switched into the "correct" position (he was transverse before), so the movement has been really weird feeling this week.
Food cravings: Pineapple. I swear I would marry a pineapple if I could.
Aversions: The smell of lunch meat at 7 am is the worst thing.
Showing? Lol
Labor Signs? Still having a few painful contractions every now and then.
Belly Button- in or out? In
Rings- on or off? On
Happy or Moody? Happy!
Looking forward to: My first baby shower is this afternoon, and then my family is coming up from H-Town for my big baby shower this weekend!!! I can't even begin to explain how ready I am to see them- I haven't seen them since our gender reveal party (over 4 months ago)!

Maternity Outfit

Y'all I wasn't lying when I said that I was going to start posting a little more of everything... I'm not sure where this sudden bit of inspiration is coming from. But let's just keep rolling with it!

My husband was kind enough to take pictures of me in our back yard for a fashion post. And out of the 30(000) pictures he took, this was the only one where I thought I looked semi-acceptable. I apologize for the poor lighting. That was my fault for picking a bad time of day to do these pictures. And my belly probably looks way bigger than it actually is because we just ate the most AMAZING turkey burgers (with pineapple... my fave) right before the picture was taken. :)

Kimono: Forever 21 (I bought it last week, so it should be in stores- I just couldn't find it online (similar) //  T-Shirt // Jeans // Sandals // Watch // Earrings

I've gotten more compliments on this kimono than anything that I've worn in a long time. And it's seriously one of the 3 things that I find comfortable these days (the other two being sweatpants and a bathrobe. No, I'm not joking). So I'm going to keep on wearing this kimono (and I'll probably buy more) for quite a while.

Have a wonderful day!

31 Weeks

How far along? 31 Weeks, 2 Days
Maternity clothes? Every day!
Sleep: Is getting worse and worse. Naps have been saving my life... Or else I would be running on about 5 hours a night. Not cool.
Best moment this week? Winning a free vacation on Kidd Kraddick in the Morning!
Miss Anything? Sleep. And I'm ready to lose this baby weight. Like, yesterday.
Movement: He actually kicked me so hard a couple of times this week that it hurt. No joke. This kid is very active.
Food cravings: I really just want to eat pineapple all the time. It's an addiction.
Aversions: The smell of lunch meat is so gross.
Showing? Ya think? ;)
Labor Signs? Yup- I started having painful contractions this week. They're not frequent enough for us to be concerned yet, but the fact that they started at 30 weeks makes me really think the little guy will come early.
Belly Button- in or out? In
Rings- on or off? On
Happy or Moody? Happy and Sleepy! Haha
Looking forward to: Baby showers- they start next week! And finishing up the school year so this mama can (try to) rest up before E gets here.

Mother's Day

Last year, on Mother's Day, I took (yet another) a pregnancy test with a negative result. It was at that moment that it hit me- there might be something wrong. I remember quietly crying in my bathroom, fearful of what might lie ahead for us. The doctor confirmed my fears.

Obviously, God had a different plan than the doctors. And we are so thankful. Beyond thankful.

But I am fully aware of the millions of women who are hurting so deeply today, just as I was a year ago. I remember feeling defeated and hopeless. It's a terrible, dark place to be, and I remember it all too well.

To my friends who are struggling with infertility: You are amazing. You are beautiful. You are brave. And though you are still waiting to receive the official title of "mom", you have served so many people in ways that mothers do. You comfort others around you. You give advice to those who need counsel. You care for those who are helpless. You serve in your churches and communities. You're pretty awesome.

To my friends who have miscarried, lost their children, or lost a mom- I can't even fathom the hurt that you're feeling today. My heart breaks for you. And I don't know what to say, except that I am praying for you, especially today.

You are incredible. You are not forgotten. You are loved.

P.S. I couldn't do a mother's day post without honoring my beautiful, sweet mom. I hope I am as wonderful of a mother as you have been to the three of us. I admire you and appreciate you in ways I can't even begin to express! Love you, mom!

5 things

Okay so last week's link up was a smashing success- I made a bunch of new friends. So I think I'm going to carry on with this for a little while- I'm glad it gives me the freedom to blog about whatever my little heart desires! So here are my 5 little random thoughts for the week.

1. I think it's hilarious how ombre my hair looks in this picture (I haven't dyed my hair at all. This is called heat damage, my darlings). And look at how swollen my face is. This pregnancy thing is getting silly. Oh and look at how adorable my husband is. He's my favorite.

2. So last week I talked about the dogs and how one in particular barks at nothing. Well, the other one (Chip) has a weird quirk. We crate our dogs, so I hurry home after school to let them out. Chip finds it necessary to pee on our back patio. It's the strangest thing. The only way he doesn't do it is if I walk out with him, stand in the grass, and watch him pee. No joke. I can let him out the morning, and he will voluntarily pee in the grass. He will do the same at night. It's only in the afternoons that he feels the urge to pee right next to our back door. He's so strange. But oh so adorable. I mean, look at that (unedited) sweetness.

3. This girl is in desperate need of hostess gift ideas... I have 4 showers, and each of them have at least 8 hostesses. So if you have any suggestions, comment below! :)

4. I went to the gym for the first time in months this week. I have been working out at home and walking the doggies, but I figured that I pay a monthly membership- so I should stop wasting it. I've been seriously working on my fitness (especially since I'm in a wedding 3 weeks after my due date. *gulp*).

5. Y'all. This is real life. Go to this link, and listen to the 5th clip. THAT'S ME!!!! ON KIDD KRADDICK!!!!! AND I WON!!!!

So this means that the hubby and I get to go on a free trip to Mexico. Y'all. I can't even contain my joy. I mean, look at this place.

This is one happy mama. It has been an outstanding week. :)

Have a wonderful weekend, my sweet friends! If you're new here, follow along! I have a lot of fun posts coming up in the next few weeks!
