Goal Update

At the beginning of the year, I posted my goals for 2014, and I thought I would do a check in! Here we go!

1. Implement an organization system and stick with it

I feel like I've done a really good job with this one. Before, I was really bad about throwing everything in a big pile and leaving it for a few days. Well, those days are over. I do my best to put everything in it's right place before I go to bed. I reorganized our bathroom, kitchen, and my craft closet, and everything has stayed pretty and orderly! Now I need to come up with a good system for our coat closet, all of our mail, and we need to rearrange our guest room closets, thanks to our new family member, who will require a bit of closet space. ;)

2. Cut back on processed foods

There are some days where I am really good at this, and others where I'm not. It's a day by day thing. Like this week, our fridge is FULL of healthy, non-processed stuff. Every now and then, I want something that's not too healthy, and I'll give in if the craving doesn't go away after a day or two. But overall, I've cut back, and I would like to continue to cut back on it even more!

3. Plan out meals every week

This one has been REALLY helpful. We save money at the grocery store, and we eat out a lot less than we used to. I love finding recipes that contain ingredients that I already have in my pantry, so that also helps with the money saving part.

4. Be smart when putting together baby room

We haven't bought a ton of decor for E's room, but we have KILLED it with other deals that we've found. We went to Rhea Lana's, and bought a ton of consigned stuff for SUPER cheap. We'll definitely be using Rhea Lana's in the future!

5. Learn how to redesign my blog

Uhhh this might be the most challenging one out of all of them. I don't know if I will ever find someone who has the spare time to teach me how to do graphic design. But I'm determined to make this little blog look more special in the future. :)

6. Paint at least two rooms

Well, I think we've picked the color for E's room- now I need to figure out what I want to do for my office! We might paint his room over Spring Break. We'll see!

7. Read 5 spiritual formation books

I haven't gotten started on this one, because I don't know WHERE to start! If you have any books that have shaped your thoughts/religious beliefs, please share them in the comment section!

8. Be more intentional with my time

I think I've been doing a good job with this one. I think I created this goal more for the future- especially when E arrives. But so far, so good!

And there you have it! Are you keeping up with your goals that you made for yourself this year?

Have a wonderful, sunshine-y day!

20 weeks

Uhhhhh I need some color on my lips. I will keep this in mind for the next picture. :)

How far along? 20 weeks (and 2 days)
Maternity clothes? Oh yeah. Not ashamed.
Stretch marks? Nope!
Sleep: Is getting more and more uncomfortable every night.
Best moment this week: Seeing our precious Emmett. It was our last ultrasound. Crazy that we won't see him again until he's born!! Also, we scored some AWESOME stuff at Rhea Lana's this weekend. I'll post about that some other time. :)
Have you told family and friends: Yes!
Miss Anything? Sleeping through the night. And this week I've really wanted to drink Dr. Pepper (I need to figure out if there's a caffeine free version).
Movement: Still nothing. Little guy is being stubborn.
Food cravings:  Dr. Pepper. :) And fruit is on the top of my list of cravings again.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Brushing my teeth makes me gag like no one's business.
Have you started to show yet:  Well of course. :)
Gender prediction: It's a boy!
Labor Signs: No
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy
Looking forward to: Feeling this kiddo move around. I'm sure it will happen any day now!

19 weeks

How far along? 19.5 weeks
Maternity clothes? Yes. I just can't quit those maternity pants, y'all. Heaven.
Stretch marks? Nope! I need to buy some good stuff to prevent those from happening!
Sleep: Was rough this week. Not gonna lie. But taking a Benadryl helped me breathe (and sleep) better.
Best moment this week: Spending some good, quality time with my boo.
Have you told family and friends: Yes!
Miss Anything? Being a smaller size. Ha!
Movement: Not yet. E is being very stubborn.
Food cravings:  I 've had a lot of Mexican food. Hence the picture. ;)
Anything making you queasy or sick: Raw meat is always nasty. And I gag (and sometimes throw up) when I brush my teeth. Gross, I know.
Have you started to show yet:  Yup!
Gender prediction: It's a boy!
Labor Signs: No
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy
Looking forward to: Seeing him at our 20 week check up today (we're a few days early). There's nothing more amazing than seeing our little boy move around. But there's a little part of me that's sad that I won't see him again until he's been born. :/

Our Fancy Date Night

I posted about why I'm not crazy about Valentine's day and the whole idea behind it. However, the hubby and I were given a fun opportunity to celebrate that we couldn't turn down. So here's how we spent the evening!

A couple of weeks ago, one of my BFF's asked me if we wanted to go on a double date for Valentine's Day. We said "duh".

We ended up going to the BEAUTIFUL Marlsgate Plantation in Scott, AR.

Here's our little group at the bottom of the stairs. Look at that growing baby bump (and my growing face)! AAHHH!

The dinner was absolutely delicious! Here are my poor quality iPhone photos.

Our first course was a delicious gumbo with french bread. By far everyone's favorite part of the night!

For our main course, we had pork with an orange and cranberry chutney over wild rice, candied carrots, green beans, and a croissant.

Our dessert was a yummy trifle with vanilla pudding, berries, and cake (everyone else had liqueur soaked cake. I was a good mommy and and asked them to leave out the liqueur).

The decor in the house was absolutely beautiful, and the staff was so kind! We had so much fun- and the event was free, thanks to my friend Kristen's connections. ;)

Check back tomorrow for the 19 week bumpdate!

A lesson I'm learning

I know I usually post bump dates on Monday. But I didn't do a chalkboard over the weekend. We're all surprised, I know. Ha.

Anyways, I wanted to post about something that I'm learning throughout this journey of becoming a mom.

When we were going through our fertility issues, I envisioned pregnancy to be... uh... different than it is. I had NO idea the kind of stuff that it does to a woman's body (I mean, I knew I would grow and all, but there are some things that are happening that are not cool at all, and they are certainly not "blog material"). In the past few weeks, I've been having a pity party because of my lack of sleep, pain that's come out of nowhere, and because Emmett loves to position himself on nerves that make me feel paralyzed for a few seconds (isn't he a doll?). I've found myself wishing I could fast forward through this whole pregnancy thing (I hear it gets worse), just to experience the after birth part. I'm 100% convinced that actually being able to look at (and hold) Emmett will be much more fun than him squishing my insides (by the way, he still hasn't kicked. Not okay, E. Not okay).

Yesterday, my bad attitude changed.

I had THE MOST WONDERFUL day with my hubby. We went on a fun lunch date, bought groceries (which used to be my least favorite activity with him- now that we've figured out our little system, we always have fun), got a Sonic happy hour drink (Diet Sprite with Powerade and cranberry. You're welcome), walked the dogs, bought flowers, watched Up!, and laughed for almost an hour watching funny videos on the iPad. It was one of those days where I loved being around him, where I fell more and more in love with him, and where I begged him not to go to work this morning so we could have another day full of fun. As I was drifting off to sleep, I realized that these fun days with just the two of us are going to be nonexistent in a few months. Sure, it's going to be a blast having Emmett around all the time, but I'm going to miss what we have right now.

So instead of wishing these next few months away and being whiney about how uncomfortable I always am and how I'm huge (and just about to reach the halfway point of growing a human... yippee...), I'm going to start focusing on these precious last few months that I get to spend alone with my best friend. I'm going to be EXTRA intentional with my time with him. I want him to know that our marriage will always come first, even if we have to work hard to keep it that way once the little guy gets here.

That's all for today. Have a happy Monday, friends!

Feta Dip

I made this for a party the other night, and it was to die for!

1 block Feta cheese
Green onions, finely chopped
Cherry tomatoes, halved
1/2 Avocado, cut in cubes
2 large basil leaves, sliced into ribbons
Olive oil
Cavender's Greek seasoning

Top feta block with onions, tomatoes, avocado, and basil. Drizzle olive oil over everything (as much as you want!), then sprinkle with seasoning (again, as much as you'd like). Serve immediately.

I served the dip with Triscuits on the side!

Sticks and Stones

Nearly every day, I see posts or hear about a woman bashing another woman. Whether it's through social media, being passive aggressive, gossiping, or trying to sabotage someone else's life- it's an issue that's getting out of control.

Then, the other day, I stumbled upon a young girl's Instagram account. I could only look at two pictures, because of the hate-filled comment sections that included fighting, filthy language, and plenty of things that were absolutely shocking. These are junior high and high school students calling each other some of the most degrading things I have ever heard/read in my life.

We sure are starting them young, aren't we? Teaching girls to turn against each other? Teaching them that it's okay to call each other some of the nastiest words that exist? Shame on us for not teaching girls that gossip and name calling are EXTREMELY hurtful. Shame on us for setting terrible examples by being catty, holding on to grudges, and involving them in things that they shouldn't even know about. What happened to ladies being classy? What happened to women supporting each other in a world where we often have to fight our way to the top? Why are we always trying to compete with each other, instead supporting and encouraging each other in our endeavors?

Ladies-- I want to challenge you to teach younger girls that words hurt more than anything. I've been called plenty of names, and those words stick, no matter how much I try to push them out of my mind. We need to teach girls how to handle situations like ladies- not like the next guest on Jerry Springer. If you have an issue with someone, calmly (and privately) talk it out. Teaching girls to be hateful will set them up for failure.

Girls-- stop shaming each other on social media. No matter how angry you are, handle situations with class. Learn this lesson early on in life. There are PLENTY of grown women who still don't get it, and they're making themselves look absolutely foolish. When people turn against you- be kind to them. It's not fun to pick on people who are nice to you all the time, right?

Let's stop the nonsense. Let's grow up.

The Story of Us: The Wedding

Instead of writing all about it, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. :)

It was the most perfect day. It was before Pinterest was a huge deal, so it definitely falls on the more traditional side. But I loved everything about it.

Have a wonderful day! Check back next week for the next part of our story.
