24 Weeks

Y'all- yesterday was not the best day... I found out I have gestational diabetes, cleaned my house all day long, cried off and on for a few hours because I was frustrated with life, we had to spend a small fortune on car repairs, and then the day ended with my husband flooding the bathroom (it was not the toilet- it was the bathtub). So yeah. This was at the end of a long day. Excuse the hot mess.

How far along? 24 weeks, 4 days
Maternity clothes? Yup! All day err-day.
Stretch marks? Not yet.
Sleep: Has been okay- I wake up a couple of times at night due to discomfort, but nothing too terrible.
Best moment this week? Spending a ton of alone time with the hubby- I'm soaking in every moment!
Miss anything? Fitting in my normal clothes- now that spring is rolling around, I don't feel comfortable in anything at all. :/ (See yesterday's post)
Movement: More and more every day! He's definitely breech right now- hopefully that will change.
Food cravings: Taco salad and pineapples have been my favorite thing this week.
Aversions: Raw meat in grocery stores. Disgusting.
Showing? Yup!
Labor Signs? None
Belly Button- in or out? Still in
Rings- on or off? Depends on the day- the wedding band is always on (it's 1/2 size larger than my engagement ring- yes I did this on purpose).
Happy or Moody? I haven't been moody. But yesterday was not the best day of my life.
Looking forward to: Painting the nursery tomorrow!

The Story of Us: Mawwiage

About a month, I posted a bunch of pictures from our wedding. And I promised that I would write about our experience so far.

As many of you know, we spent our first year of marriage living in the same town as our in-laws- and they were absolutely wonderful. So many friends of mine have serious issues with in-laws and setting healthy boundaries, but I can honestly say that this has never been an issue (on either side of our family). They are some of the most wonderful, Godly people I have ever known, and it still blows my mind that I get to be a part of a family that loves each other (and the Lord) so deeply.

Everyone tells you that the first year of marriage is the hardest. In retrospect, it definitely was. But at the time, we didn't have anything else to compare it to, so we thought it was a piece of cake. Now that we are past that point, we can look back and recognize the stupid things we'd argue about, and although we still have our occasional arguments, we know how to communicate much more effectively and how to work through those things without me giving him the silent treatment for a few hours (totally guilty of that. And it gets you nowhere, by the way).

There were days where I wasn't DJ's biggest fan- and there are probably even more where he wasn't my biggest fan. We didn't have to really like each other that much- but we made the conscious DECISION to love each other through everything. That's been such a huge thing- you CHOOSE to love each other. Always. And you have to learn to forgive- and you might as well get over whatever you're mad about quickly. Life is too short to stay mad (especially about the dumb stuff).

I am by no means a marriage expert- we're only 2 1/2 years in. And we haven't been through a super rough patch. So I have no idea how challenging it is for some people to make it work. But we've learned that if we keep God at the core of our marriage and let Him work in us, things tend to go much more smoothly.

And I have no idea what else I should add- so I'll just leave it at that. :)

xoxo

23 Weeks

I am the worst. And I still haven't done another chalkboard. But you better believe I'll have one for week 24. Hellooooooo Spring Break!

How far along? 23 weeks and 5 days.
Maternity clothes? Definitely. I got some cute stuff from Old Navy yesterday (and saved $25! Hey-o!)
Stretch marks? Nope! And I'm using some good stuff to prevent it! :)
Sleep: Has been pretty good this week. I still haven't recovered from daylight savings time, so I am super sleepy at 10:00 every night.
Best moment this week: This past week, Emmett started kicking really hard where his daddy could feel it. Seeing DJ's face light up was one of the sweetest things. I'll never forget it.
Have you told family and friends: Yes!
Miss Anything? This week, I'm not really missing too much!
Movement: Every day. And he's getting a little more active every day, which is fun.
Food cravings:  I've been trying to cut WAY back on cheese and bread, which is a HUGE challenge if you know me. So I always want that kind of stuff, but I need to be healthy. Womp womp.
Anything making you queasy or sick: I avoid the raw meat section in the grocery store, so there's not really anything too bad!
Have you started to show yet:  Definitely.
Gender prediction: It's a boy!
Labor Signs: Nope!
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy... The other day, I asked DJ if I had been acting any differently, and he said that I've really been pretty "normal" throughout this pregnancy. That's a relief. :)
Looking forward to: Painting his room in a few weeks! We picked our colors, and we're going to get some grandparental help for the fun task of painting the walls and ceiling. :)

22 Weeks

No chalkboard picture this week... Sorry. I'm a slacker. But there's a cute picture of the bump at the symphony on the Insta (@leslynjacks)!

How far along? 22 weeks (and 3 days)
Maternity clothes? Le duh.
Stretch marks? Nope! I started using cocoa butter over the weekend. So we''ll see if it works.
Sleep: This week was actually okay!
Best moment this week: Feeling the little human moving around every day- I love it right now!
Miss Anything? Fitting in my old clothes.
Movement: Yes- we went to the symphony on Saturday night, and Emmett was loving it.
Food cravings:  Nothing in particular- I'm just starving all the time.
Anything making you queasy or sick: Raw meat is nasty.
Have you started to show yet:  Yup!
Gender prediction: It's a boy!
Labor Signs: No
Belly Button in or out? In- but the innie is becoming less of an innie. Slowly but surely!
Wedding rings on or off? On- but they're getting tighter and tighter!
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy, happy, joy, joy!
Looking forward to: More baby kicks!

Nursery Inspiration

Hello everyone!

We've been getting a lot of questions about what we're doing for Emmett's room! Well, it all started with this.

DJ went to Marshall's a few weeks before we found out what we were having, and he saw this airplane and bought it. He loved it so much that he said, "even if we have a girl, we need to keep it so we can use it if we have a boy someday."

And that's how we he decided what our nursery theme would be. I had no say in it. But it's okay- my husband has pretty good taste.

After doing some extensive research, we really like Benjamin Moore's Palladian Blue for his walls. Of course, the picture below has tons of natural light (if you look at the full blog post where I found this picture, you can see that there are several windows in the room). Emmett's room only has one window, and it's pretty standard-sized (whatever that means). So we'll see how it works in the nursery. We really love the gray undertones that this color has. The biggest pain for us will be painting the ceiling. Our builder painted all of our ceilings the same color as our walls. So that should be a fun adventure.

And here's the theme/decor we really like for his room.

We probably won't do the uber-modern furniture, just because that's not really our style. But the vintage airplane stuff? We like it a lot. My parents went out and bought the propeller for his wall, so now we just need to find some fun prints/artwork! We're so excited.

We haven't settled on nursery furniture yet (Oops...), but we're trying to narrow things down!

Anyhow, that's where we are right now! I'll post updates whenever we get started on his nursery! :)

xoxo

21 Weeks

I wore lipgloss for this one! ;)

How far along? 21 weeks (and 5 days... Oops)
Maternity clothes? Uhhh yeah.
Stretch marks? Nope!
Sleep: Is getting more and more uncomfortable every night.
Best moment this week: HE FINALLY KICKED!!!!!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!!
Have you told family and friends: Yes!
Miss Anything? I only miss fitting in my clothes. :) There's a post coming up about that.
Movement: Praise the Lamb. It happened on Friday (2/28).
Food cravings:  You know... I haven't had any outrageous cravings this week. I am looking forward to trying out this new gourmet grilled cheese restaurant in town. But I'm 100% sure I would feel excited about that if I wasn't pregnant. :)
Anything making you queasy or sick: Just the smell of raw meat!
Have you started to show yet:  Yes! Strangers are starting to talk to me about my baby bump, which is super exciting!
Gender prediction: It's definitely a boy!
Labor Signs: No
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On... Although my engagement ring (which is a half size smaller than my wedding ring, which I did on purpose) was a bit tight on Sunday morning. Uh oh....
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy
Looking forward to: Him kicking more, and DJ being able to feel it. And starting the decorating process for his room! I already have a post about his nursery ready for next week! Look at me blogging ahead and being productive! :)

Have a wonderful day, friends!

xoxo

Our house

A little over a year ago, we moved into our dream house. It's beautiful, and we absolutely love it. However, it still needs a bit of personalization. Or a lot. Whatevz. So this is my official to-do list of our house. And we're going over this by room. Get excited, people! Oh, and I'm going to post pictures of the (interior)transformation that has happened since the last house post. The only two rooms that weren't photographed are the laundry room and the guest bathroom. They're not very interesting. :)

Front yard
Okay so for the most part, there's not a lot that can be done about this. But we want to do a couple of things to make it more appealing:

- make our flower bed look fabulous by adding more to it... We especially need more color
- bite the bullet and get some gutters (OMG expensive)

**Our yard is not very pretty right now due to ice. So you're not going to see any pictures of the exterior of our house... Sorry. :/

Back Yard
We did a huge project in January. We filled up all of the holes that Luna dug (Chippy helped a little bit... with the hole digging, that is), and ended up building a back patio! It was the biggest pain to put together, but now, we love it and can't wait to spend a ton of time outside when it gets warmer. We still need to:

- pressure wash our fence
- stain our fence
- add flower beds on both sides of our patio

Here are some pictures that I took on my phone of the whole process.

The first two pictures kind of show just a few of the holes that our darling puppies dug.

Here's just a fraction of the process that we went through to finish this project. It was not fun.

And here's the finished product!!

Emmett's Room
Obviously this is a super long list. So we won't go there quite yet. Especially since it's currently a guest room and all. But our goal is to finish it by the time I get out of school.
This is the one  "before" picture I got before we changed the bedding.

Here's what his room looks like right now. But it will change in a few months. :)

Guest Room
I think it's done for now. We might feel the urge to paint someday, but right now, it's one of the most complete rooms in our house.

Here's the before...

And here's the after!

Here's how it looks today. :)

Office
This one is another big project, but we're hoping to get a lot of it done before Baby J arrives.

- Paint
- Find the perfect chair for my desk
- Reupholster piano bench
- Tune piano
- Refinish piano (it's looking a bit rough)
- Curtains
- Purchase a good closet organization system (we really like this one)
- Find some pretty wall art (it's going to depend on the paint color we choose)

And here's the fun transformation that has been happening in my craft closet... Here's the before. AKA a hot mess.

And this is how it looks now! Now we just need the organization system that we liked from IKEA, and we'll be set!

We found these at IKEA, and I love them! :)

Kitchen
In a perfect world, my husband would let me paint the cabinets white. But he's not crazy about the idea. So for now, our kitchen is complete... Except we still need to find some stuff to put at the top of our cabinets.

Dining Room
We had to get rid of the super old farm table that belonged to DJ's great-grandparents. We were kinda sad about it. But there was a 50-year-old oil spill on it that smelled awful, and we did everything we could to get rid of the stench, but this preggo couldn't handle it. So DJ's parents ended up giving us their old dining room table, which is BEAUTIFUL. All we really need to do is give the table a fresh coat of paint, and stain the top.

Here's the before:

Here's the after with our AMAZING chairs we got from Kroger (for only $35 apiece! Hey-o!)

Living Room
We've gotten a lot of wonderful stuff done in the room. One of the biggest accomplishments is that after living there for 10 months, we finally hung curtains in our giant window!! Hallelujah! The only thing that we might consider doing (in a few years) is changing the light fixtures. Oh, and we still have the dream of having bookshelves on either side of the window (add crown molding for a built-in effect), and maybe adding a window seat.

Here are the before pics...

And here's the update with a new rug, new stuff on that island, and the curtains!

Master Bedroom
Is complete for now. We might feel like painting it in a few years? But we'll cross that bridge some other time. We're content.

This is how it looked before we had fun extra stuff in there:

And here it is today:

Master Bathroom
This room has been neglected big time. I spend a lot of time in there (hello, massive Jacuzzi tub that makes this mama happy), so it's time that we fix it up a bit! We'd like to

- Paint the bathroom a happy, light sea glass beachy color (you know what I'm talking about.... right?)
- Find some good stuff to hang on the walls- I have no idea what direction I want to go with this
- Maybe find something pretty to put between our sinks

Master Closet

Here's a fun little space that we love. Perhaps we can find a small bench that we can place under our window?

Okay so that's it for now. I can't wait to show you guys our next update! It will be fun!

xoxo
