What's the Plan?

I have a confession.

I'm obsessed with planners. No really, I am. If you know me at all, you know I can't commit to doing anything without consulting my planner first (a trait that I inherited from my mom). I have it with me at all times, and I love keeping up with everything that I need to do. I'm so much like Monica from Friends- there is nothing more satisfying than checking something off of a list/planner (and saying the word "check" when it's accomplished).

Let's talk about how I keep all of my old planners. No, seriously. I do. And I don't know why I do it.

All except the top right one were purchased at Target or Office Depot. DJ bought the top right one for me as a Christmas gift (it's Vera Bradley). These are all pretty basic. They aren't personalized, aren't expensive, and they don't really have a ton of features.

Then, all of the Erin Condren madness began. So I had to take jump on the bandwagon. Suddenly, planners went from costing around $15 (except for the Vera one) to about $50. But in my mind, it was TOTALLY worth it. Who doesn't love having their name on their planner, and having a cool chevron design on the cover?!

So I used my life planner. But- I found that I was having a hard time fitting everything in some of the columns (I guess I'm not a column person?), and I realized that I wasn't taking advantage of a lot of the features that I was paying for (stickers, space for notes in the back of the planner, etc.). I wanted to have something that was more simple, but was still personalized.

Enter Maybooks.

I love Maybooks for many, many reasons. First of all, the monogram. Duh. Then there are a BAZILLION design options. No, seriously- it's unreal. I love that you get to design your cover and that it's so unique. When I first discovered Maybooks, I spent an hour designing different covers (no, this is not an exaggeration). I love that it's so light, compact, but that I can still fit (most of) my daily things on there. I use it in every way possible, so I don't feel like anything is going to waste. Oh, and it's half the price of the Erin Condren planner.

Here's my dilemma...

With a new kiddo, I know I'm going to have to keep up with A LOT more stuff than I used to. Which means I'm going to have to go back to a large planner (Erin Condren sized- but there won't be enough writing space). I started doing a lot of research (I told you that I take my planner very seriously), and I came across these two options.

As far as the pages go, they're almost identical. There's only a $1 price difference ($58 and $59... I would totally get my money's worth).  Whitney English has more design options, but I like the designs from both companies. So basically, I just need to pick one based on the cover design.

I'll let y'all know which one I go with (because I'll be the giddiest person in the world whenever it comes in the mail). What planner(s) do you recommend?

Peace up, H-Town Down

This weekend was our first big trip to Houston! Emmett has only traveled about 40 miles away from home, so I was a little nervous about this trip... But in true Emmett fashion, he was a champ and traveled really well! Yay!

So here's a quick highlight reel of the weekend!

Emmett went swimming for the first time and he loved it.

He met some of my mom's closest friends (and their kiddos are my sister's age, so they came, too!)

Later on in the evening, Emmett stayed with his Lovey and Poppy so his Mama and Daddy could enjoy an anniversary dinner at The Melting Pot! It was SOOOO good!

The next morning, Emmett went to his first church service! He slept the whole time (he'll need to grow out of that eventually), and it was so fun to introduce him to the wonderful people that my parents go to church with.

It was a wonderful trip, and we can't wait to go back again!

Check in tomorrow for the newest edition of Weight Loss Wednesday!

Mama Mondays: An Introduction

Last week, I talked about my new weekly blog posting schedule. I mentioned Mama Mondays... And this is totally going to be "a thing". As in, I'm partnering with with another blogger and we're making this a link up!!!

First of all, let me introduce you to Logan! I found her blog several months ago, and I've loved reading her blog. We have a ton in common- we have little boys (her little one, Hampton, is SO adorable), we're Jesus-followers, we're about the same age, and the similarities go on and on.

We're both SO excited about this link up because it gives mamas the opportunity to talk about anything they want to- nothing is off limits. If you want to talk about something hilarious/sweet/frustrating that happened this week, we're all ears. If you just want to show off a bunch of pictures of how cute your little one(s) is (are), this is the perfect link up for you. Anything goes. I've noticed that so many people get "judge-y" about the way that moms choose to do things. This is going to be a no-judgment zone.

The blog button is in the works. Our first official post will be next Monday (Labor Day... September 1). I hope that you'll join us, and that maybe you'll make some new blog friends along the way!

You know you're a mom when...

1. You don't get enough sleep to have morning breath. I didn't even know that was possible. But it happened. And speaking of oral hygiene, there are some days where you don't even get to brush your teeth until mid-afternoon.

2. Body fluids don't even faze you any more (What? There's poop/pee/spit up on my shirt? Oh well. YOLO.).

3. You always talk about your child (guilty... Look at this blog, for goodness sake).

4. You frantically try to get a million things done during nap time (you've made it to the point where you don't have to sleep when the baby sleeps. Praises).

5. You post a lot of pictures of them on your blog. Again. Sorry I'm not sorry. ;)

"UGH MOM!! Stop taking my picture so much. It's getting old."

I'm linking up with LaurenAmanda and Karli!

‘Cause I’m Happ-ay

I've known Keisha for a long time, and she is seriously one of the coolest people I know (and the woman can cook like nobody's business). I've always admired her for so many reasons, and I think that you're going to like her a lot! :)

So, I’m admitting something and I’m admitting it on someone else’s blog.
There, I’ve said it and I feel better.  But seriously.  The guys have all their ESPN and news talk radio and what are we left to listen to?  So, since I’ve found myself on the open road some lately, I’ve had a chance to partake.  I don’t listen to it every day, but even if I’m traveling down to Fayetteville from Rogers, I find some nuggets of wisdom while I drive.
For those of you in Leslyn’s world that don’t know me, I’m a couple things:
-and a lot a bit, crazy
So, having something to take my mind while I’m driving is always a safer bet than the alternative; being left with my own thoughts.
Back in April, Oprah hosted 7-time Grammy award winning artist Pharrell Williams. The lovely thing about being behind on TV shows means you get to catch up on them and hear everything had you been sitting in your living room.  Its an interesting thing watching an episode of an Oprah show or OWN network with your ears.  I tell you, I hear a lot of things I would miss if I were just sitting on my couch watching the show.
He is an interesting little dude and I found some strong nuggets that I’ve been digesting over the last couple weeks.
So, I thought I would take advantage of my chance to invade Leslyn’s world and throw these same topics out for your thoughts, or at least for you to think about.
  • Life is about being used for something that’s greater than yourself.
  • Its most important to be doing something that makes you happy.
  • The best “boom” comes when you are at your wits end.
  • Purpose and intent make a big impact to the process.
  • I can be a better me.  I can’t imitate and be a better them.  I can only work it out and be a better me.
  • We each have a voice, we each have a passion.  Our obstacle is to figure out where the 2 meet.  Then, use one for the other.
  • Find your confidence in the mirror.
  • Everyone just wants to know they matter – it’s the common denominator of us all.
  • Sometimes we define ourselves by what we do and not who we are.  (that’s backwards-that part I added!)
  • To live a brave and courageous life, you have to be vulnerable.  Vulnerable includes love, life and being heard.
Seriously, he just says these kinds of things in regular conversation.  I’m not talking spiritual truths here and yes I do know what some of his songs say.  But, there are some truths here, worth pondering, none the less.
We all live from some common denominators.  Over at my blog, bigpittstop, we talk a lot about my personal struggles with the art of comparison, personal value, fear and worry.  It’s all things I chronically struggle with, but I’ll go on record to say they are conditioned behaviors that I’ve learned from the generations of women before me.
I’m guessing with my host being a new mama that many of her readers are as well so let me just offer some “big sister” advice -
  • walk boldly today
  • be the best YOU, you can be
  • try and if you fail – tweak your life a little – try again
  • find something that fills your cup and figure out a way to work more of it into your life
  • lastly, give yourself a break – others will take your lead
  • we’ve got one of you, be the best of it you can be
From there, I kinda think the rest of it will fall into place.
Breathe in.  Breathe out.  Find 3 things you’re most thankful for and call it a day!

And, if you get bored, stop by and visit me sometime!

Weekend Recap

This weekend was a big first for me and little E. It was our first time to not have Daddy at home for over 24 hours. He had a bachelor party to go to, so that gave me quality time with my little buddy.

Here's a little photo diary of our fun weekend together. Let's keep it real- it wasn't that exciting- it just gives me an excuse to post more baby pictures. :)

This was an hour after Daddy left for the day- he's a morning person like his mama.

This was his reaction when I told him that it was just me and him until the next day. Haha

He finally calmed down for a couple of hours so mama could get some work done (blogging, cleaning, her quiet time).

He flexed...

He was cute...

He slept some more...

We went for a walk....

Mama got dinner from her favorite place...

He took a bath and made happy baby noises the whole time...

We went to sleep...

And then daddy came home.

My favorites.

I hope your weekend was as cute as mine. ;)

It's been a few weeks since I joined in on the link up fun! I've missed making new friends, so I decided to hop back on the bandwagon!

1. You guys. Last week, my baby took a nap for the first time ever where I didn't have to hold him. I know. I'm blown away. He was in the mamaroo. I was able to do 2 loads of laundry, wash the dishes, write thank you notes, watch two episodes of Grey's anatomy, make our bed and organize my new wallet. Granted, I watched the episodes while I did the other things. But still. It was a big moment. If only he could start sleeping more at night (y'all- I only got 4 hours of sleep last night. I've already cried twice today because I'm so tired).

2. The hubs and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary last week(if you missed the adorable post, click here). He got me this KILLER Michael Kors wallet (I'm dying over here, people... I was shocked when he gave it to me). I haven't gotten a gift for him yet, because hello, I'm busy trying to get stuff done around the house while the baby is sleeping. But I have a master plan. He's going to like it. :)

3. I am going back to work in a month, and I kinda want to cry because I can't believe how quickly all of this is happening. The babe turns 1 month old next week (what.), and I might cry. Not joking.

4. Our bigger dog, Luna (who happens to be barking obnoxiously while the baby is sleeping... grrrr....) is SO fascinated by our little guy. The dogs aren't allowed to walk into carpeted rooms, but I guess she thinks she's a big deal and she gets to do whatever she wants? Puh-lease.

5. I'm just going to dump a bunch of pictures off of my phone. Because that's what new moms do. At least I'm not blowing up your Instagram feed. By the way, I would love for you to follow along! @leslynjacks :)

When we were out on a walk the other night... He just pulled his blanket up and looked at us like that the whole time. It was cute.

My new favorite picture of my baby.

Please caption this one. ;)

He has an old man receding hair line and it's hilarious. He's not losing hair anywhere else.

See?! Hairiest back ever.

Naptime yesterday

He finally likes bath time now. Thank goodness.

He loves his mama

Holding his head up... He did this for 5 minutes the other day.
